Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento
About The Children's Receiving Home
Since 1944 Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento (CRH) has been a refuge for children and youth affected by abuse, neglect and trauma. As the region’s first line of defense for children and youth who have been removed from their homes, CRH is committed to breaking the cycle of abuse and to changing the lives of abused children and their families.
Project Overview
This project includes removal of an existing 20’ x 40’ swimming pool built in 1976, adjacent concrete hardscape, pool equipment & perimeter fencing. Kenton Russell, Architect; GR Grading; Silverado and Redleaf Construction have discounted and/or donated all or a portion of the work for the project valued at approximately $53,000.
Project Goal
The goal of this project is to encourage social interaction, healthy development and physical activity for youth of all ages and abilities by creating a new open greenspace. Long recognized as an effective way for mental health professionals to engage with troubled and hard-to-reach youth, therapeutic recreation has proven vital to keeping the kids in need of care engaged in CRH's programs and away from the temptations of negative influences and self-destructive behaviors.
Description of Need
The in-ground pool – once a centerpiece of our park-like 6.5-acre campus – has stopped functioning and is beyond repair. Removing the pool and surrounding fencing will enable CRH to reclaim a large previously inaccessible area of its campus and will provide residential counselors and case managers with another tool in their toolbox as they encourage youth to deal with challenging feelings and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
